With school back in session and the weather turning from summer sun to a distinct autumnal chill in the air thoughts here at Project: Wanderlust HQ have turned very much towards booking some christmasy getaways and winter sun. Mr L and I have spent most of the weekend talking though different options and making a list of the travels we’d like to do between now and springtime but with limited time due to work and school commitments we didn’t have time to fit it all in! Luckily our friends at Estate Net were on hand to give up some Autumn Winter travel inspiration for the best places to visit during the Autumn and Winter months.
Autumn Winter Travel Inspiration
The growth of Christmas market demand over the last 5 years has boomed. I can remember taking my mother to Brugge years ago to visit the Christmas markets there and loving it, they are the perfect way to get yourself into the festive spirit. From mulled wine, ice skating to handmade Christmas tree decorations, what isn’t there to love on the lead up to Christmas? We talked about taking the girls to one this winter, either Oslo or Berlin are top of the list, although I think Oslo may win as we can combine it with a few hours of winter sport fun too at the city’s SnowPark
We always talk about winter sun when looking for Autumn/Winter travel inspiration, and the desire to head off the Caribbean for long, lazy rum soaked days on the beach. However if you fancy something closer to home the South of France is the perfect destination for some well deserved autumn sun. Home to some of the most cosmopolitan beachfront locations in Europe and many hidden countryside gems, this wonderful part of France can even offer sunbathing as long as you visit the area before November. Even during the slightly colder months, it is a beautiful place to visit as you can witness the world-renowned vineyards turn into a burnt orange/brown colour.
If you are wishing to escape the dark mornings and freezing temperatures, and want a little more sunshine than France can offer, a luxury beach resort is the perfect option for you. The Maldives is one of the best places to visit if you’re looking for an up market retreat, and has been on our bucket list forever (we are just waiting for the girls to be a little older). It is likely to be one of the most picturesque places that you will ever visit, due to it’s perfectly white sands, crystal waters and swaying palm tree, the perfect way to completely relax and forget about your everyday stresses for a while.
This is number one on our Autumn Winter travel inspiration list every year! After a successful family ski trip last year to France we have booked up already to take the girls to Bulgaria in January to try somewhere new.
No matter what ski resort you choose you’re guaranteed an action packed break, however you can also relax and take in the beautiful views of the snow filled area too.
Whatever the type of holiday you are looking for, I hope this has given you some Autumn/Winter travel inspiration. From getting into the Christmas spirit or escaping the UK’s climate – I cannot wait to see where everybody chooses to go!
